The In-Between

Interestingly, for hundreds of years the term narrative was used solely as a characteristic of literary texts. Narrative in painting elicits different interpretations then narrative in text.

Painting is therefore not able to adhere to the criteria that narrative structure demands and this persistent gap between topic and narrative creates fragmentation.
